We'll have to wait a bit longer to see the next stage in demonologist Elise Rainier's journey, as it's being reported that Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures have moved the release date for Insidious: Chapter 4 from this fall to early 2018.

Multiple sources, including Variety, report that Insidious: Chapter 4 is now slated to come out in theaters on January 5th, 2018, pushing the Blumhouse film back from its original October 20th, 2017 release.

Filling in the vacated October 20th slot is another Blumhouse film, Half to Death, the latest movie from Christopher Landon (Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones), that "follows a college student reliving details from the day of her murder and she works to discover her killer’s identity."

Produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli and James Wan, and directed by Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan), Insidious: Chapter 4 stars Lin Shaye as Elise Rainier, Angus Sampson as Tucker, Leigh Whannell as Specs, Josh Stewart, and Bruce Davison.

In my exclusive interview with Shaye last year, she said that the timeline of Insidious: Chapter 4 will begin shortly after the conclusion of Chapter 3:

"In general, it goes back to Elise’s beginnings. And you also meet Elise at a very different point in her life. It takes place right after the end of Chapter 3, when she walks off with Specs and Tucker and they’re starting their company, Spectral Sightings, and they are now living at her home. They’re like her two sons, her two bad sons [laughs]."

Shaye also discussed how Chapter 4 will explore Elise's past and introduce viewers to her family:

"So it starts out in a very jovial, happy place and then goes downhill from there [laughs]. And 'downhill' meaning 'uphill,' though. It’s a fantastic story and it took me back into what made Elise who she is. You meet my family, my mother, my father—we go back to my hometown, which is in New Mexico. And so that’s where this takes place and her quest to find the bad guy that’s been haunting her. It’s a really wonderful story. I think the fans will really, really enjoy it. And it’s scary on levels they’re not going to expect."

We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on Insidious: Chapter 4 as more information is revealed. Are you looking forward to re-entering The Further?
