Was it Colonel Mustard in the ballroom with a candlestick? Or was it Miss Scarlett in the study with a revolver? 20th Century Fox is looking to head back to the mansion for a macabre mystery in a new Clue movie based on the classic board game.

Deadline reports that Ryan Reynolds' studio Maximum Effort has signed a three-year first-look agreement with 20th Century Fox, and the first project under the new deal is a live-action adaptation of the murder mystery board game Clue, created by Anthony E. Pratt.

In addition producing the new Clue movie, Reynolds could potentially star in the film, although it's yet to be announced if he will officially be involved in front of the camera (or what character he would play).

Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the scribes behind Deadpool, Life, and Zombieland, are expected to pen the screenplay for the new Clue movie.

The Clue board game was previously adapted for the screen by Jonathan Lynn in 1985 (read our own Heather Wixson's 30th anniversary retrospective here and here), with the big screen adaptation starring Tim Curry as the butler Wadsworth, Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White, and Christopher Lloyd as Professor Plum.

We'll have to wait and see if the Clue movie comes to fruition (and if it will feature different endings like the ’85 film), but we'll be sure to keep you updated as more details are revealed. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer for the original movie below:
