We haven't heard anything about the Sam Raimi-produced The Day of the Triffids remake in a quite a while, but it's alive and well. According to a new report, Neil Cross (Luther, Pacific Rim) has been hired by Ghost House Pictures to write the new screenplay.

The story deals intelligent killer plants trying to take over the world after a meteor shower blinds most of the world's population. The Day of the Triffids started out as a novel by John Wyndham in 1951 and is also a cult British sci-fi film that was released in 1962. Since then there have been a number TV films also based on the source material.

While we know Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures is producing the film, there is no word yet on who's directing and when they are looking to begin filming. At one point, it was mentioned that Raimi may direct this him self, but that has not yet been made official. We'll have more details on the project as they become available.
