With the American Film Market starting next week, we're going to have plenty of details on upcoming horror films. Among them is the remake of The Evil Dead, which was officially announced back in July.

According to Shock, here is the plot synopsis that will be used at the event: "Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival."

Bloody Disgusting also has some additional details on the reason for them going to the cabin: "The 'new spin' is the motivation behind the trip, with the lead character taking his younger sister to the family's cabin to help her kick her drug addiction. Without her drugs she becomes insane and difficult to control, which makes it impossible to see that she's actually possessed."

Fede Alvarez will be directing the remake, with Diablo Cody polishing up the script originally written by Alvarez. Filming is expected to begin in early 2012, with Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell producing. Bruce Campbell is expected to have a cameo in the film, but it was mentioned in September that he may not be reprising his role as Ash: http://dailydead.com/bruce-campbell-confirms-no-ash-character-in-evil-dead-remake/
