True Blood‘s Mariana Klaveno was being sought for the role of Lily Munster, but ABC wouldn't let her our of her contract for Devious Maids. The role has now fallen to Portia de Rossi (Arrested Development, Nip/Tuck), who completes the main cast.

Rossi will be joined by Eddie Izzard (Grandpa), Jerry O’Connell (Herman), Charity Wakefield (Marilyn), and Mason Cook (Eddie). The new series has been created for NBC by Bryan Fuller, with Bryan Singer (X-Men, The Usual Suspects) on-board an executive producer and the director of the pilot episode. Filming kicks off this week and we should see the pilot episode later this year.

Here is a previously released description for the plot and an early character description for the role of Lily:

**Spoiler Warning** “The pilot episode… will focus on 10-year-old Eddie Munster who is unaware that he’s a werewolf, and that his family is composed of terrifying creatures. The madness begins when a baby bear attacks a scouting trip, only it turns out that this “bear” is actually Eddie transformed into a werewolf. Eddie is unaware of his metamorphosis and it forces the family to move in order to protect the family secret. The coming of age story gets weirder as he fights against his family when he learns of a shocker: they’re a family of flesh-eaters!

Lily Munster: “…Like his father, Eddie’s mum ultimately teaches him the “difference between being a Munster and being a Monster”. She works at a pet store where she uses her magic to, for instance, trick the dogs into cleaning their own cages.”
