Over the years, multiple directors have attempted to get an adaptation of Preacher on the big screen, but it has never panned out. More recently, there has been word of turning it into a TV series and a new report suggests that AMC is moving ahead with a pilot order.

For those who are unfamiliar with Preacher, it is a Vertigo comic series that was first released in 1995 and was created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. Without giving too much away, here's a basic plot summary:

"Merging with a bizarre spiritual force called Genesis, Texan Preacher Jesse Custer becomes completely disillusioned with the beliefs that he had dedicated his entire life to. Now possessing the power of "the word," an ability to make people do whatever he utters, Custer begins a violent and riotous journey across the country. Joined by his gun-toting girlfriend Tulip and the hard drinking Irish vampire Cassidy, the Preacher loses faith in both man and God as he witnesses dark atrocities and improbable calamities during his exploration of America."

This news originally came from Devin Faraci at Badass Digest, who has a pretty good track record when it comes to reporting these types of stories. D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye) is the director most recently associated with the project and he still claimed to be attached to it earlier this year. Unfortunately, the report did not reveal the creative team behind this pilot, but we'll update this story as soon as AMC makes an official announcement.
