The Lords of Salem will be Rob Zombie's latest directorial effort and while talking with The List, he discussed the film's shooting schedule and inspiration. If everything goes as planned, pre-production will begin in march and shooting will start in June. As for the inspiration for the film, Zombie mentions his childhood in Massachusetts:

"Lords of Salem is an original idea, it's a new thing, it's something I've been working on. I grew up in Massachusetts, so the Salem Witch Trials was something that figured in big as a kid. Even as a kid they'd take you to the Witch Museum. And that might have something to do with the things that I like. It's based on historical fact about the Salem Witch Trials and their modern day repercussions, so the film takes place in modern times but it's a witch movie."

After discussing other remakes (The Blob) as potential projects to direct last year, I'm glad to see that he's gone with an original film. If everything stays on schedule, we should start hearing casting announcements in the near future.
