In this morning's round-up, we have a Q&A with Casper Van Dien from the supernatural horror film, June. Also: details on Dracula's prop auction, XLrator Media's 24 Hour Rental, a video tribute to Friday the 13th Part VIII called "Voorhees Stomp", a new poster for The Hexecutioners, and release details for Krampus: The Reckoning.
Casper Van Dien Q&A: "JUNE tells the story of nine-year-old June (Brice) who has been shuffled in and out of foster homes for years. And though she tries to be good, no matter where she goes, a trail of chaos and terror seems to follow. It’s only when June is sent to live with a new couple, Lily (Pratt) and Dave (Van Dien), that it looks as if things might finally work out. Except this innocent child with the face of an angel is possessed by an ancient, malevolent entity that has hijacked her soul. Unless June can defeat the demon within, her new family – and mankind itself – are destined for destruction."
Thanks for taking the time to converse with us today, Casper. When you first read the script for June, what elements of the story appealed to you the most?
Casper Van Dien: It was my conversation with [co-star] Victoria [Pratt] and then the director [L. Gustavo Cooper] that got me interested in the script. Then I felt like it is was a smart story that I could do something with.
What can viewers expect from your character, Dave? What kind of a personality does he have?
Casper Van Dien: Dave is a smart guy. He notices things. He loves his wife and wants her to be happy and would do anything for her.
What was your experience working with Kennedy Brice, who plays the nine-year-old with a supernatural presence?
Casper Van Dien: Kennedy is super talented and will always be my little wolf child. I adore her.
Do you have any favorite horror films that influenced your role in June or came to mind during shooting?
Casper Van Dien: I love horror films. I love The Shining and The Exorcist.
The 18th anniversary of Starship Troopers is approaching and the film’s legacy and fan base still continue to grow. When you look back on that experience, what are you the most proud of?
Casper Van Dien: I loved being Johnny Rico in a Paul Verhoeven film written by my great friend Ed Neumeier. I am most proud of the positive effect it has with people. I still get so many questions about the film and everyone quotes it all the time. It felt like it was something special at the time. It felt like a gift from above. And it has been.
With June hitting DVD and Digital on October 6th, what projects do you have on deck that you can tease for our readers, and where can they find you on social media?
Casper Van Dien: I just won Best Director for a film I directed [Patient Killer] for the BAFFSF awards. I just finished my third film as a director and I am Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Season 3, coming out soon. Star Raiders and ISRA-88 are two films I have coming out soon, too. Life is pretty good.
