After hearing about the project for a number of years, it seemed like David Gordon Green's remake of Suspiria was moving forward early last year. In May 2012, it had been announced that Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan, The Hunger Games) was cast in the lead role, with production expected to start in September 2012.
Nothing happened in September and we haven't heard about the project since. Thankfully, The Playlist caught up with David Gordon Green at Sundance and he talked about the status of the project:
"Suspiria is caught up in legal crap so who knows what will ever happen to that... That kind of falls into the 'Confederacy Of Dunces' category of 'someday I'd like to make these movies' that I was once attached to and worked on, but they may never happen."
The remake of Suspiria was to be produced and financed by Crime Scene Pictures partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris, along with producers Francesco Melzi d’Eril of Memo Films and Luca Guadagnino under his First Sun film banner. The script was written by David Gordon Green and Chris Gebert. It seems unlikely that we'll hear anything more about the project, based on Green's comments, but we'll let readers know if anything changes.
