It's been in the works for quite some time, but the Underworld TV series, based on the action horror film franchise of the same name, looks to be moving forward with director/producer Len Wiseman at the forefront.

Although the Underworld TV series hasn't found a network to call home, Deadline reports that the development of the series is indeed moving forward at Wiseman's production company Sketch Films.

Currently containing five films, the Underworld film franchise follows the vampiric assassin Selene (also known as a Death Dealer) as she navigates the war between bloodsuckers and Lycans, with humans occasionally caught in the carnage. Kate Beckinsale has played Selene in the films, but it's not yet known what the plot of the series would be, or if Beckinsale would be involved.

Wiseman will executive produce the series along with Lakeshore Entertainment’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, and Eric Reid, with the series coming from a deal Wiseman has set up with 20th Century Fox Television. Sony's television division is also taking part in the development stages.

Via Deadline, Wiseman touched upon the tone of the Underworld series, saying, "The series will be a pretty big departure from the films. I don’t want to say it’s more adult, but it’s definitely less comic book in its tone and character.”

We'll be sure to keep you updated on this series as more details are revealed. In the meantime, what would you like to see in an Underworld TV series? Let us know in the comments below!
