The ABCs of Death is an anthology horror film with 26 short chapters directed by a different filmmaker. The movie was just released on-demand and on a variety of digital download services, and each of the 26 directors involved in the project conducted an interview with a different website. For our feature, we conducted a Q&A with Danish artist and director Anders Morgenthaler, who created K is for Klutz:

Thank you for taking the time to talk with Daily Dead. How did you become involved on The ABC's of Death? Did you approach the producers to be a part of it or did they approach you?

Todd Brown of Twitchfilm has followed my work since Princess and we have been meeting up regularly for a couple years. He asked me if I wanted in on the ABC project and saying yes was the only sane answer.

Did you have your choice of letter to work with or was it randomly assigned to you?

I think I was given the letter not knowing until you asked there maybe was a possibility to choose. Now I feel envy creeping up my spine.

Was the idea for the short film something you already had in mind for an upcoming project or was it developed specifically for The ABC's of Death?

I have lots of ideas for short films and I scanned through them to come up with one that fit ABC. Actually, all of them could be shaped in to ABC fairly easy and that scared me. Apparently my mind is so f***ed up that all ideas end with death and violence... It's a sad world.

With all of the possibilities for the letter K, why did this word and story stick out as the one you needed to create? Was there any past inspiration behind the story?

I wanted to make a kind of R-rated Pixar story. And I thought the letter should not hint at the ending of the story, which is why it has the cryptic title. I loved the idea to make a story about the only taboo left in the world...

Were there any other "K" words or ideas you had, but didn't use for your short?

Nope I focused on the toilet story right away and kept my nose in the track ... That came out wrong.

For readers who may be unfamiliar with the animation process, can you tell us a little bit about the development process?

The budget was minimum, so I decided to make the short with just one animator, kind of like the old Disney short. That is something I really want to pursue over the next years: Going minimal doing Princess-like films with teams of just 5-6 people. I did the sound recording myself in the field instead of a studio with a digital recorder and the actor. Cheap and more authentic.

Were you at any of The ABC's of Death's festival screenings? If so, what were some of your favorite segments?

I have yet to see the film. I guess I'll buy it of the rack in the supermarket in a year or so when it comes out.

With Daily Dead being a horror-focused site, could you tell our readers what some of your favorite horror movies are? What are some of your favorite experiences watching horror movies growing up?

I have not seen a horror film in a couple of years. I simply get too scared to the brink of pissing my pants. To name one of the oldies, The Shining is the masterpiece. The Walking dead scared the sh** out me and I had to stop. Sorry, I'm such a p***y in the horror game...

Thank you again for taking the time to talk with us. So that our readers can keep up with your work, can you tell us about any upcoming projects? Is most of your time focused on Pandaerne right now and do you have more episodes on the way?

The Pandas are done. Three seasons of animal madness is delivered and I hope we can get a US platform soon. Those things takes time, so will see. I am writing a new animated feature named Kiddo and I hope to go into production after the shooting of Petit this sommer.

I'm also doing my daily comic in the biggest national paper in Denmark. You can check the English version at: http://wumocomicstrip.com/

"Twenty-six directors. Twenty-six ways to die. The ABCs OF DEATH is perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world's leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children’s educational books, the motion picture is comprised of twenty-six individualchapters; each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death. Provocative, shocking, funny and ultimately confrontational, THE ABCs OF DEATH is the definitive vision of modern horror diversity."
