The creepiest, kookiest, and altogether ookiest cinematic family will return to the big screen in a new Addams Family animated movie next year, and MGM has now confirmed the voice cast for the gothic collection of beloved characters.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed the core voice cast of The Addams Family animated movie, including:

  • Charlize Theron as Morticia
  • Oscar Isaac as Gomez
  • Chloë Grace Moretz as Wednesday
  • Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley
  • Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester
  • Bette Midler as Grandmama
  • Allison Janney as the antagonist Margaux Needler

According to THR, the new film will "follow the creepy and kooky family as they face off against a crafty reality-TV host while also preparing for their extended family to arrive for a major celebration, Addams-style."

Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, the co-directors behind the R-rated animated comedy Sausage Party, are directing The Addams Family animated movie from a screenplay by Matt Lieberman.

The movie is based on Charles Addams' iconic single-panel comics that first introduced readers to the frightening and fun family that now includes husband and wife Gomez and Morticia, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, the Frankenstein's monster-esque butler Lurch, Uncle Fester, Grandmama, the hairy Cousin Itt, and the dismembered hand known as Thing.

In addition to directing, Vernon will produce The Addams Family movie alongside Gail Berman and Alex Schwartz, with Andrew Mittman and Kevin Miserocchi executive producing.

MGM will release The Addams Family in US theaters on October 11th, 2019. Here's what co-director Vernon had to say about the creative direction of the film (via THR):

“Greg and I have always been a fan of the Addams Family in past versions, so when we set out to make this movie, we were excited to do something new. With that in mind, I drew from the brilliantly original Charles Addams New Yorker cartoons for the look of the film and decided to tell the story of how Gomez and Morticia meet, find their house and start their family."

Charles Addams' comics were first adapted for the small screen on ABC's live action The Addams Family TV series, which ran from 1964–1966, the same timespan that The Munsters was airing on CBS. The Addams family would go on to return in numerous live action TV specials over the years, with new actors playing the iconic roles in The New Addams Family series that ran from 1998–1999 and three feature films that were released in the 1990s. The altogether ooky family also appeared in the realm of cartoons with an appearance in The New Scooby-Doo Movies and two of their own animated series.
