The second season of The Walking Dead will consist of 13 episodes and premieres this October. Cast members and producers will be attending this week's Comic-Con to promote the new season and debut new footage.
AMC has posted another behind the scenes video, this time with Greg Nicotero talking about the big-eyed zombie girl that was used as the first promotional image for the second season.
The new season is currently filming in Georgia, with 13 episodes planned. We will be getting our first look at the new season this Sunday during the premiere of Breaking Bad. Most of the cast members will also be present at Comic-Con next week for a panel and preview of season 2.
The 2011 Emmy Nominations were just announced, and genre shows, including The Walking Dead and True Blood were mostly kept out of the major categories. Michael C. The Walking Dead picked up three nominations. The first was for "Outstanding Sound Editing For A Series" and and the other, well deserved nominations were for "Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series" and "Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup For A Series". The official AMC blog for The Walking Dead posted another edition of "Dispatches From the Set". This week, they interviewed Gwyneth Horder-Payton, who directed the first episode of The Walking Dead's second season:
"Q: We've heard a lot about a highway snarled with traffic. What was it like to choreograph that?
A: It was a challenge. There were so many vignettes within the pileup -- all these connected bits, people under the cars who had to see certain people under other cars. I already had a plan -- and then we did a model -- but then to do it on the site, you still have to make sure you could get under the cars and pick the right cars to get under. You can't get under most cars, so it was like a combination of suburban soccer mom cars and redneck trucks."
There isn't any new information regarding the second season in the rest of the interview, but you get to read Gwyneth talking about her experiences directing episodes in the first season and memorable on-set moments. You can read the full interview at the source link below.
The wait is almost killing us, but all of the interviews, photos, and videos are holding us over until the premiere of the second season of The Walking Dead. As we've mentioned in earlier reports, The Walking Dead is currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia, and that's given locals plenty of opportunities to take set photos.
While we've passed on posting some of the less interesting set photos before, Examiner has collected 50 of them and we've included some choice images for you to enjoy this weekend.
If you are attending the San Diego Comic-Con later this month, make sure to take some time and visit NECA. On top of being able to check out previews of their upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street and Evil Dead 2 figures, they will also be selling an exclusive mini-bust from The Walking Dead TV series.
The mini-bust is referred to as the "Deer Eating Zombie" and "Comes with COA signed by Greg Nicotero". It will be selling for $50 and is only available at the show, so don't miss out if you're attending. Continue reading to see an image of the full mini-bust...
**Update- This trailer is officially being labeled as an "unofficial / fan" teaser. Based on the bullet time and lack of episode footage, we already assumed this was something created locally for FX in the UK. We're just posting the update notice to address any confusion.**
This UK teaser trailer for the second season of The Walking Dead may not be the most revealing, but we know most of you want to see everything that gets released regarding the upcoming season.
We should have some episode footage in the very near future, but until then, here is a promotional bullet time zombie scene for you to check out...
In our quest for interesting zombie news, we've found a zombie birthday cake that was created for one of the cast members of The Walking Dead:
"It was created for a cast member of the show, and was followed up with some zombie head cake pops as well for the cast and crew. Just wicked. And yes, the cake "doors" are bulging outwards (and up) as the cakey-hordes inside it are trying to get out."
Based in Atlanta, Sweets to the Sweet has created some pretty great cake designs, including the TARDIS from Doctor Who and Muppets. Continue reading to see images of The Walking Dead cake and zombie cake pops....
Robert Kirkman visits the set of The Walking Dead season 2 in the latest video update from the official blog for The Walking Dead TV series. In this video, Robert Kirkman goes on a set tour, where we see him hold his first gun and interact with various cast members, including Andrew Lincoln:
"The Walking Dead is back in Atlanta for Season 2. Robert Kirkman shows fans where the magic happens and tells us what he loves about being on set. White space tubes, guns, and of course, dead people!"
AMC and The Walking Dead production team have done a really good job of providing us zombie fans with steady information regarding the upcoming season. Today, they have posted a "Dispatches From the Set" Q&A with Frank Darabont, where he talks about the first weeks of filming, upcoming locations, and how they are dealing with upcoming plots from the comic series:
Q: How are the first weeks of production going?
A: Tough! It's a very challenging show to do, and this is why it really helps to have a fantastic crew and a really great director. The time I spent on the set was reasonably minimal because I was out scouting other locations and going through a bit of prep, so there's a lot of tromping through fields and picking ticks out of me when I got back to my room. You probably should know that the cast and crew are braving heat, humidity, ticks, every source of disgust you could imagine -- all to entertain you for an hour a week. [Laughs]
We've showed you individual previews of The Walking Dead figures based off of the TV series, but now we have better images and accessory info for all 4 figures, thanks to Figures.com.
The Walking Dead TV Series 1 figures are being developed by McFarlane Toys and will be available this November for $14.99 individually. Continue reading to see the images and accessory details...

Earlier this week, we found out that Pruitt Taylor had been cast in season 2 of The Walking Dead as Otis, a foreman at Hershel's farm. Anyone who has read the comics knows the significance of Hershel's farm and it has been said that the farm will be a significant location in the upcoming season.
With the new season currently filming, we knew that Hershel's casting would be announced shortly and now we have confirmation on who's playing Hershel and his daughter Maggie. According to TV Guide, Lauren Cohan (Supernatural) has been cast as Maggie, and Scott Wilson (CSI, The Exorcist III) will be playing Hershel. Here's what producer Gale Anne Hurd had to say about the casting of Scott Wilson:
"[Hershel is] a veterinarian with a great sense of humanity and a very unique take on the Walkers." Expect Hershel to endure great heartache as "not everyone in his family survives." Scott was chosen, says Hurd, because of his "tremendous scope and gravitas."
The 13-episode second season of The Walking Dead is currently filming in the Atlanta area and will premiere this fall.
