Batman: City of Madness is a standalone cosmic horror Batman tale, and Daily Dead readers will be happy to know that it features large, Lovecraftian creatures, and some of Batman's best villains, including the Court of Owls and Two-Face. Christian Ward's trademark art style is visually striking, and combined with a compelling, character-driven story, City of Madness is an instant classic. The 3-issue mini-series was just collected into a hardcover edition that I recently picked up, and, as you can tell, this is a book I absolutely loved and would recommend to any Daily Dead reader. Ahead of NYCC, I was excited to speak with Christan Ward about the origins of the story, his early love of the Dark Knight, his unique approach to Two-Face, chances of a sequel, and his favorite cosmic horror movie.

"Buried deep beneath Gotham City, there exists another Gotham. This Gotham Below is a living nightmare, populated by twisted mirrors of our Gotham’s denizens, fueled by the fear and hatred flowing down from above. For decades, the doorway between the cities has been sealed and heavily guarded by the Court of Owls. But now the door swings wide, and the other Gotham’s version of the Dark Knight has escaped…to trap and train a Robin of his own. Batman must form an uneasy alliance with the Court and its deadly allies to stop him—and prevent Gotham from falling into madness!"
