This is a zombie movie project we didn't see coming. It's being reported that Warner Bros. has closed a deal for a live action movie based on the Archie comic series and it's very likely that the movie will include zombies.

How did this happen? For those of you who don't keep up with Archie comic news, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently signed on to write an ongoing comic book series, called Afterlife With Archie:

"What if the zombie apocalypse began in Riverdale? This horror-infused comic answers that question when it kicks off in late 2013, spearheaded by one of Hollywood’s hottest writers, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who will be fresh off the high profile crossover, ARCHIE MEETS GLEE.

AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE will provide readers with zombie-filled mayhem like only Archie can, taking the Riverdale gang where they’ve never been before – to the grave and back.

In addition to his Archie credits, Aguirre-Sacasa has made a name for himself in the world of television (writer/producer on GLEE), Broadway musicals (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), and movies, penning the remake of Stephen King’s Carrie, which premieres this fall."

According to Deadline, the new deal with Warner Bros. sees Pitch Perfect's Jason Moore directing the movie with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa writing the script. It has not been officially confirmed that they are adapting Aguirre-Sacasa's zombie story, but it's said to be very likely. We'll provide readers with an update as soon as more information becomes available.
