Universal knew they couldn't go wrong with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg. The R-rated 2 Guns took first place at the US box office this weekend, earning an estimated $27.3 million. The Wolverine held strong at second place with $21.7 million, but the movie is performing below original expectations.

The Conjuring crossed the $100 million mark this week, a big victory for R-rated horror. The movie was produced for only $20 million and has picked up an additional $28.6 million internationally, with it still in the process opening worldwide. As we reported previously, a sequel is already in the early stages of development.

Speaking of sequels, Pacific Rim 2 is looking more likely after it had a huge opening in China. The movie may be struggling to reach $100 million in the US, but it has earned $200 million internationally. If the movie continues to hold strong, we could be hearing about sequel plans in the very near future.

Next week sees the release of We're the Millers and Percy Jackson: Seas of Monsters on Wednesday, while Elysium and Planes will open on Friday. Here are the top ten results for this weekend:

1. 2 Guns - $27,361,000
