Weekend Box Office Update

Transformers: Age of Extinction had no problem filling theater seats over the weekend and has taken title of biggest opening weekend of 2014 to date in the US by earning an estimated $100 million. This is slightly better than the third Transformer's opening weekend and, with Age of Extinction earning $201 million internationally, the latest entry in the Transformers franchise is off to a great start.

22 Jump Street took second place with only $15.4 million, but that's nothing to complain about. The movie has earned $139.8 million in the US alone with a production budget of $50 million and it already surpassed 21 Jump Street's US theatrical take.

How to Train your Dragon 2 placed third with $13.1 million, while Think Like a Man Too added another $10 million to it's total. Maleficent took fifth place with $8.2 million and has crossed the $200 million mark in the US. Jersey Boys, Edge of Tomorrow, The Fault in Our Stars, X-Men Days of Future Past, and Chef finish out the top ten with decent, but not necessarily noteworthy, results at the box office.

It should be interesting to see how things shake out after the release of Deliver Us From Evil, Earth to Echo, and Tammy on July 2nd, but it will be difficult for any of these to stop Transformers: Age of Extinction from reclaiming the top spot. Here's a look at this weekend's top ten:
