Weekend Box Office Update

2011/10/23 21:49:53 +00:00 | Jonathan James

Paranormal Activity 3 easily won the weekend and was the biggest horror release of the year, earning $54  million at the box office. Given how cheap it is to produce these films and the continued success at the box office, we don't think Paramount is going to stop releasing Paranormal Activity films any time soon.

The Thing dropped to 9th place in its second weekend, earning $3 million and bringing its total take to $14 million. Johnny English and The Three Musketeers were both new openings this weekend and failed to impress, while Real Steal and Footloose held onto the 2nd and 3rd spots.

There are no new horror releases scheduled for next weekend, so Paranormal Activity 3 should enjoy a successful run next weekend as well. New releases for next week include In Time, Puss in Boots, and The Rum Diary. Here are the top 10 box office results for this weekend:

1.   Paranormal Activity 3 - $54,020,000
2.   Real Steel - $11,319,000
3.   Footloose (2011) - $10,850,000
4.   The Three Musketeers (2011) - $8,800,000
5.   The Ides of March - $4,900,000
6.   Dolphin Tale - $4,200,000
