Weekend Box Office Update

Was there any doubt that The Hunger Games would take the top spot again this weekend? After last weekend's 150+ million opening and a theatrical run in 4,000+ theaters, Wrath of the Titans and Mirror Mirror were no match. The Hunger Games is now at $251 million since opening and has until the beginning of May before another event movie is released.

Warner Bros. may be able to blame some of Wrath of the Titans' low earnings on not expecting The Hunger Games to be as big as it was, but it didn't even come close to Clash of the Titans' $61 million opening weekend. 21 Jump Street is in 4th place, but it's a solid showing for the R-rated comedy in its 3rd week and will likely cross the $100 million mark next weekend.

Next week sees the wide release of American Reunion and Titanic 3D. Here are the top 10 box office results for this weekend:

1. The Hunger Games - $61,100,000
2. Wrath of the Titans - $34,200,000
3. Mirror Mirror - $19,000,000
4. 21 Jump Street - $15,000,000
5. The Lorax - $8,000,000
6. John Carter - $2,005,000
7. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen - $1,274,000
8. Act of Valor - $1,006,000
9. A Thousand Words - $915,000
10. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island - $835,000
