Three new movies at the box office finally bumped a number of big November releases that had been sitting comfortably in the top for the last few weeks. However, none were able to top The Hobbit, which won the weekend again with $23.9 million. Since opening, the movie had earned a total of $222.7 million in the US.
Django Unchained had a strong weekend, taking second place with $30.6 million and reaching a total of $64 million since opening right before Christmas. Les Miserables also benefited from the holiday, bringing in $67.4 million since opening and earning $28 million on this weekend alone.
Skyfall was finally bumped from the top ten, but earned $4.6 million over the weekend and brought its domestic total to $289.6 million. The movie has a considerably lower theater count this weekend, but if it can stay around for a little bit longer, it could cross $300 million in the next few weeks. Globally, the movie has just passed the $1 billion mark.
