Weekend Box Office Update

As expected, Warm Bodies took the top spot at the box office, continuing the successful streak of genre films this year. Studios tend to stay away from Super Bowl Sunday, and it left Warm Bodies pretty much by itself to earn an estimated $19.5 million. Sylvester Stallone's Bullet to the Head also opened this weekend, but played in only 2,400 theaters, and took sixth place with $4.5 million.

Both Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and Mama continued to perform well this weekend. Hansel & Gretel took second place with $9.2 million and brought its domestic total to $34.4 million. Mama took fourth place with $6.7 million and has earned an impressive $58.2 million since opening. We have no doubt that we'll continue to see more horror films each January and expect to see this month become more competitive in the coming years.

Next week sees the release of Identity Thief and Steven Soderbergh's Side Effects. Here are the top ten results for this weekend:

1. Warm Bodies - $19,505,000
2. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters - $9,210,000
3. Silver Linings Playbook - $8,113,000
4. Mama - $6,730,000
5. Zero Dark Thirty - $5,300,000
6. Bullet to the Head - $4,500,000
7. Parker - $3,215,000
8. Django Unchained - $3,039,000
9. Les Miserables - $2,439,000
10. Lincoln - $2,412,000
