Weekend Box Office Update

2013/02/10 18:53:44 +00:00 | Jonathan James

Ticket sales were relatively slow this weekend, unless you were Identity Thief. We're sure that Universal was worried about bad weather on the East Coast, but it didn't seem to stop moviegoers. The movie easily claimed the top spot with $36.5 million and should continue to do pretty well in the coming weeks.

In distant second place was Warm Bodies, which earned $11.5 million and brought its total to $36.6 million. Side Effects, Steven Soderbergh's latest film, took third place with $10 million. Thanks to a lack of new releases and good word of mouth, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and Mama continue to stay in the top ten. Hansel & Gretel has earned a total of $43.8 million since opening and Mama is at $64 million.

Next week sees the release of Beautiful Creatures, Escape From Planet Earth, A Good Day to Die Hard, and Safe Haven. Here are the top ten results for this weekend:

1. Identity Thief - $36,593,000
2. Warm Bodies - $11,500,000
3. Side Effects - $10,015,000
4. Silver Linings Playbook - $6,908,000
5. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters - $5,750,000
6. Mama - $4,323,000
7. Zero Dark Thirty - $4,000,000
8. Argo - $2,500,000
9. Django Unchained - $2,288,000
10. Bullet to the Head - $1,980,000
