Weekend Box Office Update

It was a close race at the box office for the top three spots, but A Good Day to Die Hard won the weekend with $25 million. While the new Die Hard movie opened quite a bit lower than the previous installment, it should enjoy a decent run due to Monday's holiday and a lack of big releases next weekend.

Identity Thief pushed back Safe Haven and made it to second place with $23.4 million. The movie has been performing really well, earning $70.7 million since opening. In third place was Safe Haven, which earned $30.3 million since opening and definitely benefited from the Valentine's Day ticket sales. Unfortunately for Warner Bros., Beautiful Creatures wasn't able to find an audience. With an estimated production budget of $60 million, the movie only took in $7.46 million this weekend.

Warm Bodies and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters both managed to stay in the top ten, while Mama moved to eleventh place. They all earned under $10 million, but all parties involved should be happy with how they've been performing. Next week sees the release of Dark Skies and Snitch. Both movies have an opening in around 2,500 theaters, so it will be interesting to see how they fare against A Good Day to Die Hard and Identity Thief. Here are this weekend's top ten results:

1. A Good Day to Die Hard - $25,000,000
2. Identity Thief - $23,437,000
3. Safe Haven - $21,430,000
4. Escape from Planet Earth - $16,066,000
5. Warm Bodies - $9,000,000
6. Beautiful Creatures - $7,460,000
7. Side Effects - $6,307,000
8. Silver Linings Playbook - $6,088,000
9. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters - $3,470,000
10. Zero Dark Thirty - $3,100,00
