It has been a slow couple of days for big horror and sci-fi news stories, so I have collected a bunch of smaller news items for another weekend news bits post. Enjoy!

See Paul This Weekend: If you love 80's sci-fi movies and/or Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, you should give Paul a try this weekend. I probably don't have time for a full review, but it was a lot of fun (not great, but really good). Thankfully, I didn't watch any of the trailers, because they do kind of ruin some of the comedy and good scenes in the movie. If you're planning on checking it out, stay away from the Paul commercials.

American Horror Story: Connie Britton has been cast in Ryan Murphy's (Nip/Tuck, Glee) American Horror Story. The show is being created for FX and definitely is horror-themed, but no plot details have been released at this time. [Source: THR]

New Hellraiser and Children of the Corn in Theaters NOW???: It looks like Dimension films tried to release the new Hellraiser and Chrildren of the Corn movies as quietly and quickly as possible. Of course, both of these films were created simply for rights reasons, but they were showing unexpectedly this weekend in LA. Hellraiser: Revelations is a Doug Bradley-less movie with Pinhead and I know very little about Children of the Corn: Genesis. According to reviews from people who checked them out, you can safely pass on seeing both, but don't be surprised if they show up on video on demand or DVD in the near future. [Source: STYD]

Jodie Foster Directing a Sci-Fi Next?: Short answer... maybe. She talked to the LA Times about being interested in directing a sci-fi thriller next, but first she has to finish promoting her newest film, The Beaver, and then she has to star in Elysium, and the script has to be finished:

“It’s not anywhere close to being ready,... I don’t write. I rewrite, but I don’t write, so that always puts me at the mercy of  some enormous talent that comes out of the woodwork that somehow has the same obsessions as me.”

I'm not saying this couldn't be good or that it wouldn't be interesting to see Jodie Foster direct a sci-fi thriller, but let's not get too excited yet. We probably won't hear about this moving forward, if it happens, for another couple of years. [Source: LA Times]

Julianne Moore a Witch?: Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Julianne Moore has signed on as a witch in The Seventh Son, joining Jeff Bridges in the period exorcism film. This movie will be based off The Last Apprentice book series. Julianne Moore has been recently associated with a number of other projects, so we're waiting for additional confirmation on this news. Idris Elba Talks Prometheus: How could I go a few days without some Prometheus news? Unfortunately, there isn't anything really news worthy about this interview, but Elba really seems excited to be working with Ridley Scott on Prometheus. You can watch the video over here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtIJtvL4uS0

Owned by a Skeleton: I caught this animated .gif on Reddit and I thought I'd share it. If you've never seen House on Haunted Hill, this image is a spoiler, but if you are reading this site, you should have already seen the original the original classic. If not, watch it this weekend! Here's a link where you can watch it for free (this is a public domain movie): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BeUWMfqELk [Image Source: Reddit]
