Earlier this year, MTV committed to a pilot episode for a Scream TV series. A writer had not been hired at the time of the original announcement, but we now know which writing pair will be working on the script.

According to Variety, Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin have been hired to create the pilot script. They have both previously worked on Revenge, The Event, Mercy, and Criminal Minds. It has been said that there is interest in having Wes Craven direct the pilot, but he wasn't ready to commit back in May:

"A lot of you have asked about the Scream TV series. It's true I've been approached. My response was, it would depend on the script. If they have a great script/concept, it could be fun. If not, not."

Provided the pilot is successful and MTV gives a Scream TV series a full season order, the plan is to begin airing the series in summer 2014. We'll report back as soon as more details become available.
