Since Zombieland introduced the survival rule of the double tap in 2009, many fans have been hungry for a sequel, and while a follow-up film has been in the works for years (with a TV series pilot episode based on the film even created and passed on by Amazon), Zombieland 2 is finally happening with the original cast returning for another round of living dead adventures.

The Hollywood Reporter unveiled the news of Zombieland 2 moving forward at Columbia Pictures, revealing that Emma Stone (Wichita), Woody Harrelson (Tallahassee), Jesse Eisenberg (Columbus) and Abigail Breslin (Little Rock) are all set to reprise their roles as the motley crew of zombie apocalypse survivors from the first film.

In addition to reuniting the cast in front of the camera, key creative forces are also coming back behind the camera as well, including Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer (Venom), who will once again direct from a script written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool). Gavin Polone is also returning as a producer, with Lauren Abrahams supervising the sequel.

Sony is looking to begin production on Zombieland 2 in January 2019, with Columbia Pictures planning an October 2019 release (October 2nd of 2019 will be the 10th anniversary of the first film). According to THR, Zombieland 2 will follow "the quartet from the White House to the American heartland as they face off against new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But, most of all, according to the studio, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family."
