For the week of September 16th, horror and sci-fi fans have a multitude of new and familiar title releases to choose from- everything from new indie horror movies to classic films getting an HD overhaul to a handful of TV series making their Blu-ray and DVD debuts.

To get everyone ready for the upcoming Fall TV season, this week sees the home debuts of the most recent seasons of Grimm, Hannibal, Arrow, Sleepy Hollow and From Dusk Till Dawn and classic horror fans should be happy to see HD releases for a few favorites as well, like Dark Sky Film’s 40th anniversary edition of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Eraserhead from Criterion, Anchor Bay’s 30th anniversary edition Blu-ray of Silent Night, Deadly Night and Sony’s special edition gift set for Ghostbusters/Ghostbusters II, which also contains an awesome Slimer collectible that would be a great addition to any fans’ collection.

A few new titles also bow this week including The Battery, The Dead 2, Evil Feed and Hallows’ Eve and Gareth Edwards’ summer blockbuster Godzilla also stomps its way home as well.

SPOTLIGHT TITLES:

The Battery (Scream Factory, Blu-ray & DVD)

Two former baseball players, Ben (Jeremy Gardner) and Mickey (Adam Cronheim), cut an aimless path across a desolate New England. They stick to the back roads and forests to steer clear of the shambling corpses that patrol the once bustling cities and towns. In order to survive, they must overcome the stark differences in each other’s personalities: Ben embraces an increasingly feral, lawless, and nomadic lifestyle, while Mickey is unable to accept the harsh realities of the new world. Mickey refuses to engage in Ben’s violent games and longs for the creature comforts he once took for granted: a bed, a girl and a safe place to live. When the men intercept a radio transmission from a seemingly thriving, protected community, Mickey will stop at nothing to find it, even though it is made perfectly clear that he is not welcome.

Special features include Audio Commentary, The Making of The Battery, Outtake Reel, Featurette On The Music Of The Battery, and Theatrical Trailer.

Silent Night, Deadly Night 30th Anniversary Edition (Anchor Bay, Blu-ray)

November 1984 - One film was released that set off a firestorm of controversy from parents groups because the ad campaign made significant emphasis on the killer being dressed as Santa Claus. Large crowds (mostly angry families) formed at theaters and malls around the nation to protest the film. TriStar Pictures, its original distributor, pulled all ads for the film six days after its release (November 15). On its opening weekend, the film outgrossed Wes Craven's landmark slasher A Nightmare on Elm Street, which also opened the same day. That film was SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT. After his parents are murdered a young tormented teenager goes on a murderous rampage dressed as Santa due to his stay at an orphanage where he was abused by the Mother Superior.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: 40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition (Dark Sky Films, Blu-ray/DVD Combo & DVD)

It has been called grisly, sick, and perverse, as well as raw, unshakeable, and the movie that redefined horror. It was attacked by churches, banned by governments, and acclaimed by only the bravest of critics. It stunned audiences worldwide and set a new standard in movie terror forever. Today writer-producer-director Tobe Hooper s dark, visionary tale remains unparalleled in its impact as perhaps the most frightening motion picture ever made.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of this beloved horror classic, MPI Media Group presents the original restored film in an all-new 4k scan authorized by Tobe Hooper, featuring a dynamic new 7.1 surround sound mix and never-before-seen outtakes. Bonus Features include Feature Commentaries (Track 1: writer-producer-director Tobe Hooper, actor Gunnar Hansen, cinematographer Daniel Pearl, Track 2: actors Marilyn Burns, Allen Danziger, and Paul A. Partain, and production designer Robert Burns, and Track 3: writer-producer-director Tobe Hooper), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth, Flesh Wounds: Seven Stories of the Saw, A Tour of the TCSM House with Gunnar Hansen, Off the Hook with Teri McMinn (1080p, 17:02), Production Manager Roz Bozman interview (480p), New Deleted Scenes & Outtakes, New interviews with actor John Dugan ( Grandpa) and editor J. Larry Carroll, Outtakes from "The Shocking Truth", Dr. W.E. Barnes Presents "Making Grandpa" (still gallery), Still Gallery (posters, lobby cards, etc.), Trailers, TV and Radio spots.
