Bill Skarsgård is looking to move on from Hemlock Grove to settle in the small town of Derry, as the actor is nearing a deal to play Pennywise the Clown in the upcoming movie adaptation of Stephen King's IT, which now has several other cast members lined up to star as well.
According to THR, Skarsgård (who played Roman Godfrey on Hemlock Grove) is in "final negotiations" to play Pennywise in New Line Cinema's movie adaptation of King's epic coming-of-age novel. The role was brought to frightening life through an iconic turn by Tim Curry in the 1990 ABC miniseries adaptation, and Will Poulter (The Revenant) was previously eyed for the role back when Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) was set to direct.
The adaptation is now being helmed by Andy Muschietti (Mama), who will direct from a screenplay he’s writing with Gary Doberman. Filming is set to begin this summer with a cast that also includes Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, and Jeremy Ray Taylor, according to THR. Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are on board as producers, with Jon Silk executive producing the project.
The IT adaptation is being planned as a two-film project, with one movie focusing on The Losers’ Club facing evil incarnate as kids and the second movie following them as adults once again tasked with defeating the malevolent menace that haunts their hometown... and their souls.
Warner Bros. has set the first IT film for a September 8th, 2017 release. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more details.
