Press Release: Monday, August 22nd, 2016 – The Music Box Theatre announces an extraordinary special event slated for Thursday, October 6th, 2016: a screening of the highly sought-after horror classic THE BEYOND composer’s cut and live score performed by Fabio Frizzi in person. Prior to the 8:00pm screening, a meet-and-greet with Frizzi will be held for VIP ticketholders at 6:30pm.
The Music Box Theatre goes to extraordinary lengths to discover new ways to watch classic films; on this rare occasion, audiences will experience THE BEYOND from the musician’s point of view. Thirty-five years have passed since this horror masterpiece by iconic filmmaker Lucio Fulci was released in 1981. Maestro Fabio Frizzi will retrace his steps in order to realize one of the boldest projects of his life: a composer’s cut. Unlike anything the Music Box has programed before, it promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime treat for horror nerds and film score enthusiasts alike!
Frizzi will perform the live FRIZZI 2 FULCI score as the the iconic cult classic plays on The Music Box’s historical screen. While keeping true to the film’s original identity, Frizzi will push the experience in a modern direction with minimal moments of silence, creating a brand new version of the score as the audience watches it all unfold live. Frizzi will pair the film, which contains a succession of insane, gory set pieces drenched in dreamlike gothic imagery, with an energized orchestration, resulting in an up-to-date stylized creation.
THE BEYOND, directed by Lucio Fulci, stars Catriona Maccoll, David Warbeck and Cinzia Monreale. It tells the story of Liza, who inherits a huge abandoned hotel in the heart of Louisiana that happens to be built over one of the seven gateways to hell. Unfortunately, Joe the plumber accidentally opens the gateway whilst fixing some pipes, enabling all hell to literally break loose.
