Charlize Theron Joins Prometheus

Last month, we reported that Fox wanted Charlize Theron for the lead female role in Ridley Scott's Alien prequel. Today, it has been announced that she has officially joined the cast of Prometheus.

For those that missed last month's announcement, the Alien prequel has changed into a standalone science fiction movie that appears to still tie into the Alien story in some way. While we can only guess how the film will tie into the Alien series at the moment, Ridley Scott had the following to say:

"While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative."

Charlize Theron will be joining Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds, X-Men: First Class).
