Multiple sources are reporting that Spanish game development studio Tonika Games is developing a video game based on the [REC] film series.

The game is said to be a first person shooter title that will "faithfully reproduce the contents of large part of the story, divided into four worlds, one for each part of the saga. So, at first, users will enjoy the first two phases which will be referred to [REC] and [REC] 2 ...."

The Unity 3D game engine has been used to develop this game,  but it appears that it is being developed as a mobile title: "It is anticipated that the first two parts of the game are available for download on Iphone, Iphone, PC, Blackberry, and Android tablet in the first quarter of 2012, with versions in Castilian, English, French, Italian and German.

The following worlds inspired by the film will be releasing their debut as the third and fourth of the film franchise REC."

It sounds like two worlds/levels from the game will be available as the first offering and that the plan is to release games or add-ons based on [REC] 3 and [REC] 4 in the future. This is an early announcement, so details are slim, but we expect to have official game details and screenshots early next year.  [Story via BD]
