The development of Dead Island 2 is pretty much a given at this point. We just hope that Deep Silver and Techland take the time needed to develop a quality sequel. An official Dead Island survey was recently posted, so you can tell the developers what you thought about the game and what you'd like to see in a sequel:

"We are keen to understand what you guys thought about Dead Island and we would very much like to get your feedback on a few things. For this reason we have prepared a short survey we would like to ask you to fill out for us. To spice things up a bit we will have prize drawing in the end making one of the participants the proud owner of a brand new PlayStation 3! We are looking forward to your responses!"
