While not unexpected, a recent press release from Paramount Pictures officially confirms that a new Paranormal Activity film is planned for release in 2012:

"In 2012, Paramount’s release slate highlights include 'World War Z,' a zombie thriller starring Brad Pitt and directed by Marc Forster, 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation,' the next installment in the global franchise starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Channing Tatum, a new chapter in the 'Paranormal Activity' franchise, and 'The Dictator,' starring Sacha Baron Cohen and directed by Larry Charles, the team behind 'Borat.' "

This confirmation was part of Paramount's recent press release announcing that they had earned a record $5.17 billion worldwide. Paranormal Activity 3 definitely helped contribute to their successful year, earning $202.9 million globally. While the development of a Paranormal Activity film was expected, now we have official confirmation that it is planned for release later this year.

Paranormal Activity 3 will be available later this month on Blu-ray/DVD and includes an unrated version of the film with additional footage not seen in theaters. For more information, visit: http://dailydead.com/paranormal-activity-3-blu-ray-dvd-release-information-and-cover-art/
