There’s a little bit of something for everyone this Tuesday, as May 23rd’s Blu-ray and DVD releases may not be great in number, but they are a stellar bunch of titles all the same. Jordan Peele’s Get Out arrives on both formats this week, courtesy of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, and 20th Century Fox is bringing home Logan to 4K Blu-ray as well as standard Blu and DVD discs, too.
For those who might have missed it in theaters, The Great Wall is also being released on Tuesday, as well as the horror anthology XX, from Magnolia Home Entertainment. Other releases for May 23rd include The Vagrant, Wolf Guy, WNUF Halloween Special, Voodoo Black Exorcist, and The Magnificent Dead.
Get Out (Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Blu/DVD/Digital HD & DVD)
When Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), a young African-American man, visits his white girlfriend's (Allison Williams) family estate, he becomes ensnared in the more sinister, real reason for the invitation. At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined. This speculative thriller from Blumhouse (producers of The Visit, Insidious series and The Gift) and the mind of Jordan Peele (Key & Peele) is equal parts gripping thriller and provocative commentary.
Logan (20th Century Fox, 4K Blu/Blu Combo, Blu/DVD/Digital HD & DVD)
In the near future, a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) cares for an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart) in a hideout on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are upended when a young mutant (Dafne Keen) arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
In addition to nearly 90 minutes of original content, including deleted scenes and a behind-the-scenes documentary, the Blu-ray will also include Logan Noir, a black and white version of the film that gives the acclaimed story an all-new look.
The Vagrant (Scream Factory, Blu-ray)
Ambitious young executive Graham Krakowski (Bill Paxton, Aliens, Titanic) has plotted out every move of this life and career. What he didn’t plan on was a creepy vagrant living opposite his new home. And when the mysterious man (Marshall Bell, Total Recall, Virus) sneaks into Graham’s home and starts playing sick mind games, he is driven to take matters into his own hands. Detective Ralf Barfuss (Michael Ironside, Scanners) stays hot on Graham’s trail while Graham wages war against the unrelenting vagrant, who is robbing him of his sanity… and quite possibly his life. The comedic psychological thriller is directed by special effects wizard Chris Walas (The Fly, Raiders of the Lost Ark).
XX (Magnolia Home Entertainment, Blu-ray & DVD)
An all-female helmed horror anthology featuring four dark tales written and directed by fiercely talented women: Annie Clark rocks her directorial debut with THE BIRTHDAY PARTY; Karyn Kusama (THE INVITATION, GIRLFIGHT) exorcises HER ONLY LIVING SON; Roxanne Benjamin (SOUTHBOUND) screams DON'T FALL; and Jovanka Vuckovic (THE CAPTURED BIRD) dares to open THE BOX. Award-winning animator Sofia Carrillo (LA CASA TRISTE) wraps together four suspenseful stories of terror featuring a cast including Natalie Brown, Melanie Lynskey, Breeda Wool and Christina Kirk.
