With 2017's Halloween season now in the rearview mirror, it's already time to start looking ahead to the autumn of 2018, which will feature the release of the first Halloween movie in nearly ten years. Written by Danny McBride and David Gordon Green, the next installment in the horror franchise has been hinted to take place in a separate timeline from the sequels, and in a recent interview, McBride discussed the "alternate reality" of the new movie and how it may even look at John Carpenter's original film in a different way.
Speaking with Yahoo, McBride had this to say about the timeline of the new Halloween movie:
"We’re kind of ignoring all the films past the first one. It picks up after the first one, but it’s sort of an alternate reality. It’s as if the first Halloween ended in a slightly different way."
In regards to the tone of the new Halloween film, McBride says that he and Green are shooting for scares that will hopefully stick with viewers after the end credits roll:
“I think you should be very scared. I mean, this isn’t a comedy at all. I think there was, like, maybe one joke on the page, but the rest is straight horror. So hopefully it gets in people’s heads and keeps them up late at night.”
Slated for an October 19th, 2018 release, the new Halloween movie will feature the return of Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, who will have her "final confrontation with Michael Myers." Judy Greer is also in talks to play Laurie's daughter, Karen, in the new film (since the sequels are in a separate timeline from the new movie, it's likely that Laurie's daughter, Jamie, and son, John, won't factor into the new story).
Filming on the new Halloween movie is expected to take place in Charleston, South Carolina, and we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are revealed.
