Happy 2018, dear readers! With a new year comes a new batch of home entertainment releases, even if we only have a relatively quiet week of titles to look forward to. Scream Factory is kicking off 2018 right with their Collector’s Edition of Hell Night, and Umberto Lenzi’s Seven Blood Stained Orchids is getting a brand new Blu as well. If you missed it last fall, The Houses October Built 2 comes home this week, and cult film fans should keep an eye out for Miss Zombie from Redemption Films, too.

Other January 2nd releases include Bigfoot Country, Dystopia, Anna, Death Island Paranormal Retribution, No Solicitors, and The Body Tree.

Hell Night (Scream Factory, Blu/DVD Combo)

As an initiation rite into Alpha Sigma Rho fraternity, four pledges must spend a night in Garth Manor, twelve years to the day after the previous resident murdered his entire family. Two of the pledges, Marti and Jeff ignore the rumors that the now-deserted mansion is haunted by a crazed killer, until one by one, members of their group mysteriously disappear. Could this be a part of a fraternity prank ... or is a demented former tenant seeking revenge?

When this seemingly innocent night turns deadly, these college students will do anything to survive Hell Night. Directed by genre filmmaker Tom DeSimone (Reform School Girls, Angel III: The Final Chapter), this slasher classic has a talented young cast including Linda Blair (The Exorcist), Vincent Van Patten (Rock 'N' Roll High School), Peter Barton (Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter) and Kevin Brophy (The Seduction).

Regarding the transfer: This new transfer of Hell Night comes from a 4K scan of the best archival 35mm film print. After an extensive search for the original film elements, the print was the only available element. We did extensive color correction and film restoration to clean up the film damage. The print was missing some minor footage, so we have inserted some standard definition footage to deliver the complete film. We hope you enjoy this new restoration of this ‘80s horror classic.

The Houses October Built 2 (RLJ Entertainment, Blu-ray & DVD)

Recovering from the trauma of being kidnapped last Halloween by the Blue Skeleton – a group who take “extreme haunt” to another level – five friends decide they must face their fears in order to move on. Heading back out on the road to visit more haunted house attractions, signs of the Blue Skeleton start appearing again and a new terror begins…

Miss Zombie (Redemption Films, Blu-ray & DVD)

When the Teramoto family received their new domestic servant, Sara (Ayaka Komatsu), they were provided specific instructions: do not feed her meat ( It may turn feral ) and use the enclosed pistol to dispatch it, if there is a threat of bodily harm. So begins the ultra-dark comedy by Japanese cult director SABU (Mr. Long, Happiness). The fearful neighbors treat the disfigured servant as a monster, even as the family comes to trust and accept her.

Like all good zombie movies, MISS ZOMBIE blends humor with moments of frightening violence, and holds up a mirror to society, forcing us to question who among us are the actual monsters.

Seven Blood Stained Orchids (Kino Lorber, Blu-ray)

A Code Red Release. A maniac on the loose is committing savage acts of slaughter, and one survivor may be the only key to unmasking the serial slayer known as the Half-Moon Killer. The mysterious half-moon lockets could be the only key to unraveling his sinister motives, but will that be enough before he completes his ice-cold plot to claim his intended seven victims? Based on a classic murder mystery novel by Edgar Wallace (King Kong) and starring Uschi Glas (College Girl Murders), Antonio Sabato (Grand Prix, Escape from the Bronx) and the stunning Marisa Mell (Danger Diabolik), this stylish shocker from the golden age of Italian thrillers is a crimson-dripping gem from cult director Umberto Lenzi (Almost Human, Spasmo).
