For well over a decade, Tate Steinsiek has brought nightmares to life in cinema and television with his amazing makeup effects, and soon he'll help bring scares to the screen behind the camera as the director of Cinestate's Castle Freak reboot.
The Castle Freak reboot news was announced by Steinsiek on his Instagram page (see below) over the weekend, where he wrote:
"So I can finally announce, I’m Directing the upcoming reboot of Castle Freak! It’s such an honor to be taking not only a Stuart Gordon classic, but also embracing the world of Lovecraft. Thank you @cinestatement Charles Band, and @fangoria for the opportunity, this is going to be fucking brutal. More news coming soon...."
Loosely based on H.P. Lovecraft's "The Outsider", the original Castle Freak (read Bryan Christopher's Catalog From the Beyond column on the film here) co-starred Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton as grieving parents who move into a castle built in the 1100s with their blind daughter. They soon find out that something else is already living in their ancient home, something that is not quite ready to put out the welcome mat.
A monster movie with emotional familial undertones and vicious kills, Castle Freak should give Steinsiek (who already has one feature and three short films under his directorial belt) plenty of opportunities to showcase his special effects wizardry.
