In the world of cinema, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is stretching beyond spring and into the summer and fall, as Sony Pictures has postponed several releases in their upcoming film slate, including Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Morbius.
Variety reports that Sony has delayed the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife from July 10th to March 5th, 2021, and postponed the release of Morbius from July 31st to March 19th, 2021.
According to Variety, Sony has also delayed the releases of Greyhound, Fatherhood, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, Uncharted, and an untitled Sony / Marvel movie (IGN reports that for the time being, the Venom sequel and Monster Hunter are both still slated to come out this fall).
Directed by Jason Reitman (son of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 director Ivan Reitman, who is producing the new film) from a screenplay he co-wrote with Gil Kenan, Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd, with most of the cast members from the original Ghostbusters expected to reprise their roles in the new film.
Synopsis: "From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. The film is written by Jason Reitman & Gil Kenan."
Directed by Daniel Espinosa from a screenplay by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (based on the Marvel Comics character), Morbius stars Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Morbius made his comic book debut in Amazing Spider-Man #101.
Synopsis: "One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius.
