CREATORVC, the team responsible for Aliens Expanded, The Thing Expanded, and the In Search of Darkness series, has officially entered development on Terminator Expanded, a documentary that will deep dive into both James Cameron’s The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Full disclosure: I am currently working on a companion book for Aliens Expanded in collaboration with CREATORVC and Dark Ink, and a big part of that is due to the care they put into their documentaries and their community-driven approach. As part of making this project in conjunction with their community, they're seeking feedback on Terminator Expanded, and we have all the details:
LOS ANGELES, CA - OCTOBER 1, 2026 – CREATORVC, the award-winning banner behind Aliens Expanded, The Thing Expanded, and the In Search of Darkness series, is now seeking community feedback for its next ambitious documentary feature — Terminator Expanded.
Written and directed by Ian Nathan (Aliens Expanded, The Thing Expanded), the project will serve as the ultimate exploration of James Cameron’s The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991).

In addition to shining a spotlight on how Cameron’s trailblazing science-fiction films were made (via brand-new interviews with cast and crew), Terminator Expanded is also seeking out Hollywood luminaries and preeminent AI and computer technology scholars to offer commentary on the duology’s prophetic nature.
“I see this as simple. We must meet James Cameron’s era-shaping, career-defining, industry-changing, utterly compelling and ever-more-relevant Terminator films with the same relentless ambition,” said writer/director Ian Nathan. “Terminator Expanded will be my boldest, biggest, most challenging documentary yet – an attempt to reason with both the past and the future. After the incredible success of both Aliens Expanded and The Thing Expanded, it is the culmination of my attempt to get beneath the living tissue of the most beloved genre films of a generation.”
“Following on from the Rondo Award-winning Aliens Expanded, we want to take this amazing documentary format to another level with Terminator Expanded,” said executive producer Robin Block. “We want to explore this groundbreaking franchise in unprecedented detail to really unlock its global and iconic
impact on pop culture. This is about looking at these films with a new lens, seeing them in a new light, and understanding just how prescient they really were. And we’re doing it hand in hand with the fandom, because no one knows this franchise better than they do. Our goal is simple: to make the greatest Terminator documentary ever made.”
“The time has never been riper for a trip down the Skynet rabbit hole,” added producer Josh Weiss. “Current debates over the growing omnipresence of AI — the practical, ethical, and creative implications therein — only serve to reinforce the eerie prescience of The Terminator and T2. In many ways, science fiction has merely become science fact, with Terminator Expanded representing the nexus between visionary filmmaking and the terrifyingly swift evolution of technological advancement.”
