I just sat through The Walking Dead Season 3 panel at Comic-Con and have posted my notes from the event. The panel was moderated by Chris Hardwick and included Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, David Morrissey, Glen Mazzara, Gale Anne Hurd, Robert Kirkman and Greg Nicotero.
The big item from the panel was a 4-minute preview from the Season 3. Unlike the previous season where they had just started shooting, they are more than 6 episodes in, so we got to see quite a bit of footage from later episodes in the season. The panel was also the first public appearance from new cast members Danai Gurira and David Morrissey. This is just a quick rundown, as I'm off to interview the The Walking Dead cast and crew. Much more to come...
Greg Nicotero really wants to sell decomposing, hungry zombies "and there are lots of them...."
This season will include animatronic walkers, as mentioned previously.
Greg Nicotero just finished directing a new episode for Season 3. It includes "iconic moments from the graphic novel". [Editor Note: Likely episode 5]
Glen Mazzara wants to stay true to the spirit of the comic book, keeping the show "raw and visceral".
Glen Mazzara announced that Sunday October 14th at 9pm October 15th internationally.
Norman Reedus says that Daryl is making bonds with this group and it means a lot to the character.
Laurie Holden mentions that Michonne and Andrea become very good friends on the show, as they are separated from Rick's group for at least the start of the show.
Lauren Cohan: "Maggie's priority is protecting her own"
Danai says that learning to use a katana has been insanely fun and she's been enjoying her time with the with The Walking Dead family: "[Everyone] embraced me with so much love."
David Morrissey started out as a big fan of the show before being offered the role: "Great family down there [Atlanta]... I keep pinching myself... I've always wanted to go to Comic-Con..."
Andrew Lincoln: Rick has isolated himself and that's how he's trying to protect everyone. He [eventually] realizes that he needs other people to survive.
Robert Kirkman is working "way ahead" on the comic book series and there aren't plans to add Daryl to the comic book series.
Lots of young girls for the Q&A session have a crush on Steven and he's getting teased by the cast.
Someone from the panel won a zombie bust session/creation from Greg Nicotero.
Sarah talks Lori: "The right man ended up winning the fight [between Rick and Shane] because she [Lori] warned her husband"
------
The trailer screened, and while I won't give a play by play, here are my impressions and some interesting items I caught:
**SPOILER WARNING**
Chopper spotted!
Michonne and Andrea remain split from the group.
Prison guard equipment spotted!
Carl is using a gun and has longer hair.
Hershel grew out the beard.
Lots of hand to hand zombie killing at the prison.
How much time passes from Season 2 finale and when they find the prison?
The pace looks to be really picked up. In only 6 episodes, they secure the prison and The Governor meets Rick.
