Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters may not have been the biggest horror release of the year, but fans will be happy to hear that it earned enough money to merit a sequel. Both Paramount and MGM are teaming up again for the sequel and credit the movie's international success, according to THR.

Comparing this movie to Mama, which had a great run in the US, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters actually had a higher worldwide gross. The movie was released on on January 25th and earned $54 million in the US, with an international take of $151 million.

There's no word on who will be returning to star in the sequel, but we think it would be difficult for the project to move ahead without Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. The original report didn't mention the involvement of director/writer Tommy Wirkola, but said that Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick of Gary Sanchez Productions and Beau Flynn are expected to return as producers.
