Following their work together on Elysium, Sony Pictures Entertainment and MRC recently announced that they were teaming up again to produce and finance Neill Blomkamp's next project, Chappie. Production is expected to begin this fall and we now have an official release date.

Chappie is set to arrive in theaters on March 27th, 2015. Currently, the only other movie set to open on the same week is Fox's The Penguins of Madagascar. However, with this announcement being so early, don't be surprised if there's a date shift for either movie between now and then.

"Chappie tells the story of a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own nefarious purposes. The film will star Sharlto Copley as the voice of Chappie, with Ninja and Yolandi Visser, voices of the South African Zef counter-culture movement and members of rap-rave duo Die Antwoord, as the two gangsters."
