Clive Barker has been working on The Scarlet Gospels for more than a decade. Originally planned as a collection of short stories, the project changed to focus on Harry D'Amour going up against Pinhead. While there's no release date yet, Clive Barker has just announced that he's finished the novel:
"I thought you might like to know that THE SCARLET GOSPELS, a large novel which sets Harry D'Amour against the Hell Priest Pinhead,is finished, and has been delivered to my agent. I don't yet have a publication date for it, but as soon as I do you'll be the first to know. I won't say anything about the narrative except this: it's a HORROR NOVEL with the graphic violence and perverse eroticism of the most intense tales from the Books Of Blood. Please feel free to share this news with any friends who might have been wondering about the book: THE SCARLET GOSPELS ARE FINISHED."
We don't know how much has changed from the original plan, but it was previously suggested that this book would be 1,000 - 2,000 pages in length. We also don't know whether the short stories were mostly merged into this main story or if they've been dropped completely. With the novel in the hands of Clive Barker's agent, we hope to hear about a publishing deal and more details in the very near future. This is exciting news for Clive Barker fans and we'll let our readers know as soon as we hear anything.
**Update: It was announced in late October that that St. Martin’s Press has acquired world English rights to publish The Scarlet Gospels with plans to release it in 2015. To learn more, visit:
