Universal has provided an update on their release schedule, which includes a date change for The Mummy reboot. While Universal was reportedly interested in seeing The Mummy released as a Summer 2014 movie, a director change has prompted a move to 2016. Their new schedule has The Mummy coming out on April 22nd, 2016.

"A legend that has endured since the dawn of man is reborn in THE MUMMY, Universal Pictures’ all-new epic action-adventure. THE MUMMY is conceived with dramatic intensity by an imaginative creative team including director Andy Muschietti (Mama) and producers Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Star Trek and Transformers series) and Sean Daniel (The Mummy trilogy). Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote the screenplay, and Bobby Cohen and Barbara Muschietti will executive produce."

With a release date set that far away, it wouldn't be surprising to see a date shift between now and then. We'll report back as soon as casting news begins to roll in or we hear anything of interest related to the project. The only thing we know about the movie at this time is that it will be a modern take on the classic story that is more horror-focused than the 1999 version.
