Both Insidious and Insidious Chapter 2 were massive hits at the box office, so it only makes sense that Jason Blum is exploring where else he can take the franchise. A third movie is already in development, but he revealed that he has been considering taking Insidious to the small screen as well.
He recently took part in an interview with Crave Online, where he gave an update on a number of projects that Blumhouse is involved with. During the chat, he was asked about the possibility of Specs, Tucker and Elise getting their own Insidious TV series and this is what he had to say:
"I’d like to do that. I don’t think you can do that while we’re still making movies. Now Leigh is writing the third Insidious, so we have to see how far we can take the series of movies […] but I believe very strongly that once that kind of comes to a close you can do a series, and I think soon we’ll be in a place where you can have a series at the same time. Although right now people are too nervous to have that."
As you can tell, this is far from a done deal at the moment, but with the success of other horror TV series, we'd be surprised if this didn't come to pass at some point. Insidious Chapter 3 will be released on April 3rd, 2015 and will be distributed in the US by Focus Features. There’s still no mention of James Wan’s return, but, as mentioned above, Leigh Whannell has signed on to write the script.
