The Amazing Spider-Man 2 may not be getting much love from critics, but that didn't stop fans of the character from packing theaters all weekend to check out the latest sequel. While not setting any records for a superhero movie opening, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 earned an impressive $92 million in the US over the weekend and took in an additional $277 million in other countries around the world. It's definitely a strong start and much better than the $62 million opening for The Amazing Spider-Man back in 2012.
Aside from that, it was pretty slow at the US box office. The Other Woman was bumped to second place, but still had a decent take for a movie with a modest production budget. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is still seeing decent ticket sales both domestically and internationally, and is approaching the $700 million mark worldwide. The Quiet Ones is the only horror title in the top ten and is still struggling, only reaching a domestic total of $6.7 million after it's second weekend at the box office.
Next week sees the release of Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return, Moms' Night Out, and Neighbors, and it's going to be a struggle for any of these three titles to take out The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in its second weekend. Here are the top ten results for this weekend:
1. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - $92,000,000
2. The Other Woman - $14,200,000
3. Heaven is for Real - $8,700,000
4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier - $7,762,000
