New Line has been trying to get a new version of Escape from New York off the ground for years now, but it appears that they have decided to abandon their plans. According to Deadline, they have let their option to create a remake/reboot lapse. Whether you are happy or upset about this news, this isn't necessarily the end for a new version of Escape from New York.

Although New Line isn't going to be producing a film, other studios have the option to purchase the rights and develop a new film. We may not see Snake Plissken return in the immediate future, but chances are that another studio is going to give it another go at some point in time. We're still hoping that John Carpenter and Kurt Russell get back together for the Escape from Earth movie they pitched years ago.
