BlumFest at NYCC Spotlights Blumhouse & Atomic Monster’s Upcoming Slate, Including Curry Barker’s ANYTHING BUT GHOSTS, and the Craig Zobel-Directed SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN

From the Press Release: Blumhouse Atomic Monster, the home of horror, offered fans plenty of First Looks, surprises and giveaways at its packed BlumFest New York Comic-Con session Friday. Hosted by Matthew Patrick aka MatPat, the founder and former host of YouTube’s “Theory” channels and a leading voice in internet horror fandom, the session kicked off with Blumhouse Atomic Monster CEO and Founder Jason Blum reflecting on the success of this year’s Obsession and Backrooms, thanking fans for supporting the theatrical experience in 2026.

Director Mike Flanagan, along with Academy Award®-nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (Backrooms) unveiled the trailer for The Exorcist: Martyrs. Ejiofor stars in the highly anticipated film alongside Scarlett Johansson, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane and John Leguizamo. The film is produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment and Flanagan, who will also write and direct via his Red Room Pictures banner. Alexandra Magistro will also executive produce for Red Room Pictures. David Robinson produces and Topher Merrill and John Baden executive produce for Morgan Creek Entertainment. Also set to produce are Trevor Macy, Karl Frankenfield and Roy Lee. Jason Blum and Ryan Turek serve as producer and executive producer for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

Director Rob Savage talked about today’s release of Other Mommy, and surprised BlumFest attendees with an offer to attend a free screening in New York tonight. Savage also revealed some casting news, bringing out actor LaKeith Stanfield (Get Out, Atlanta) to share the news that he will star in his upcoming film Molepeople, written by Nathan Elston and produced in partnership with Paramount Primal. Paramount has set the film for release on Aug. 27, 2027. Producers include Jason Blum, J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael "Rafi" Margules, and James Harris. Executive producers are Ryan Turek, Tracy Rosenblum, Nathan Elston, and Rob Savage. The film will be produced by Paramount Primal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

Director Craig Zobel shared that he is directing the feature film adaptation of horror phenomenon Something is Killing the Children created by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera. Stephen Christy and James Tynion IV will produce the film for BOOM! Studios/Penguin Random House. Jason Blum will produce for Blumhouse with Shaun Sutton and Ryan Turek serving as executive producers. Adam Yoelin and Mette Norkjaer will also executive produce. Series co-creator Werther Dell’Edera will act as co-producer. First published by BOOM! Studios, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in 2019, Something is Killing the Children is the most successful original horror comic book since The Walking Dead, selling more than 5 million copies worldwide. It has been translated into more than 20 languages and is published in 14 countries around the world. Blumhouse is developing the franchise simultaneously as a live-action feature film and as an adult animated television series, with the TV adaptation to be shepherded by series co-creator James Tynion IV.

Blum revealed a deal with moderator MatPat to develop DreadXP’s indie video game Amanda the Adventurer – with parent company Epic Pictures’ CEO Patrick Ewald serving as a producer – into a Blumhouse feature film.

Blum also revealed a new short film development deal with multimedia horror storyteller Heidi Wong, who combines her lifelong passions of storytelling, writing, visual art, and horror on her popular social media accounts @itsheidiwong. Known as “The Horror Queen,” Wong is the only horror or film creator featured on the 2025 TIME 100 Creators List and Forbes 30 Under 30. Under the terms of the deal, Wong will create a new horror short film for Blumhouse.

Director Josh Giuliano appeared via video to debut the trailer for his upcoming film River as an in-room exclusive. River star Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) – who appears in the film with Jane Levy, Max Mattern and Dane DiLiegro – took the stage for a Q&A about her experience working on the film, which premiered last month at Toronto International Film Festival, and opens in theaters Jan. 15, 2027.

Atomic Monster Founder/Director James Wan participated in a Q&A, discussing his upcoming return to the Saw franchise for its next installment, and production of the new Robocop series starring Dan Stevens for Prime Video. Wan also shared videos, for the live audience only, from some of the creative talent behind upcoming films, including director Drew Hancock (Companion) and star Ron Perlman (Hellboy) talking about Seasons, which stars Lily James and Jack Reynor, and director Ian Tuason (Undertone) opening up about the next Paranormal Activity.

Anything But Ghosts director Curry Barker and his co-writer/co-star Cooper Tomlinson surprised the audience, and talked about their experience working together on the film, Barker’s eagerly awaited follow-up to Obsession, slated for release May 7, 2027.

BlumFest guests were treated to exclusive footage of the hit stage adaptation of Paranormal Activity, which revealed an extension of its Broadway run at the August Wilson Theatre until Feb. 28, 2027. Five lucky winners snagged tickets to the in-demand production.
