We have a couple of casting updates for the upcoming remake of Carrie. We previously reported that Judy Greer (The Village) was in talks for the role of gym teacher Miss Desjardin and it is now a done deal. While Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth) was in talks to play "sexy bad girl" Chris Hargensen, Deadline is reporting that the role has gone to Portia Doubleda (pictured below).
Chloe Moretz was the first to sign on and will be playing the new Carrie White, and Julianne Moore will be playing her mother. Gabriella Wilde is taking on the role of Sue Snell, one of the popular girls at school who convinces her boyfriend to take Carrie to the prom. Ansel Elgort will play Sue’s boyfriend and Alex Russell (Chronicle) signed on for the role of a school bully.
Carrie will be directed by Kimberly Peirce and has an official release date of March 15, 2013. In terms of what we can expect from the story, it has previously been reported that this version of Carrie will more closely follow Stephen King’s original book than the 1976 movie from Brian De Palma.
