Every time Sidney and her friends defeated the Ghostface killer, someone else would don the black robe and white mask for another round of deadly phone games. It's now confirmed that Ghostface will rise again in the long-percolating Scream TV series, as MTV has announced the cast and director of the show's pilot episode.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Willa Fitzgerald (Royal Pains) will star in the lead Sidney-like role, with Amy Forsyth (Reign), John Karna (The Neighbors), Carlson Young (The Kroll Show), and newcomer Amadeus Serafini rounding out the cast of the show based on the self-aware and scary Scream films of director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson.
The show's pilot will be helmed by Jamie Travis (Faking It) off a script by Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin (Criminal Minds, Revenge). Dimension Films and The Weinstein Co. are backing the project, with Harvey and Bob Weinstein executive producing along with Craven, Marianne Maddalena, and Cathy Konrad. Curiously, Kevin Williamson, whose clever script gave the Scream films a refreshing self-aware flavor all their own, is not involved on any level with the TV series.
Below we have a look at the core character backgrounds (courtesy of THR!):
"Fitzgerald will star as Emma Duvall, a classic beauty whose looks and popularity hide a natural shyness and intellectual nature. Her new life with the "in crowd" leaves her estranged from her from childhood best friend, Audrey. The character is the lead in MTV's Scream take and bears a resemblance to Neve Campbell's tortured high school student Sidney Prescott in the 1996 feature film.
Forsyth's Audrey Jensen is the daughter of a Lutheran pastor. She's described as an artsy loner who aspires to be a filmmaker.
Karna is set as Noah Foster, a creative computer genius with a vast knowledge of pop culture and the tech world. He's best friends with Audrey.
Young will portray Brooke Maddox, the charismatic leader of the popular crew whose personality vacillates between bubbly sweetness and ferocious sex appeal.
Serafini will be Kieran Wilcox, the mysterious new kid in town with a dark side and a tough exterior that hint at experience beyond his years."
We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further news with MTV's Scream TV series, such as the continued possibility of Wes Craven directing an episode, as this project moves along in production.
